ASHKON (ASH) ROOZBEHANI

Attorney

OVERVIEW OF EXPERIENCE

Ash is an experienced healthcare attorney with a special focus on ERISA health & welfare benefits and regulatory compliance. Ash has advised a wide variety of healthcare clients, including insurers, provider groups, health tech startups, and employer health plans on regulatory and transactional issues.

Ash graduated cum laude from the University of Colorado in 2011 with a double major in Political Science and Economics. He received his Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Connecticut School of Law, where he graduated in the top 1/3 of his class while working full-time for Cigna Healthcare as an evening student.

After law school, Ash worked at a law firm where he represented clients before administrative law judges and assisted with federal class-action litigation frequently related to Medicare advocacy. He then continued his path in healthcare by joining a consulting firm as a compliance attorney, where he independently advised large self-funded employer plans, including plans sponsored by unions, school districts, cities and states. At the firm, Ash was the resident HIPAA and Medicare expert and routinely delivered internal/external trainings and seminars on the topics.

Ash’s instructional work was recognized by Arizona State University, where he was invited to design and teach a course on health privacy and security (HIPAA) to upper-class students majoring in healthcare compliance at the Edson School of Nursing.  Ash also worked as Corporate Counsel for Delta Dental of Arizona negotiating health plan contracts and provider participation agreements, and serving as the in-house regulatory expert on federal laws. He also held the role of Senior Counsel at OptimizeRx, where he drafted and negotiated a large volume of complex commercial agreements in the healthcare technology and life sciences space.

In Ash’s current practice, he continues to assist healthcare businesses, health plans, and individuals while also consulting. Most recently he has served as an adjudicator on an Independent Review Organization (IRO) and assisted covered entities in implementing the No Surprises Act.
